Detroit Public Schools is giving away notebook computers on Wednesday to lure more students to class on the day attendance affects state funding for the district.
DPS Emergency Financial Manager Roy Roberts is expected to talk to parents as the portable computers are distributed to students at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Communication Media Arts High School, Frederick Douglass Academy and Cass Technical High School.
The district picked Count Day as the day to kick off the new computer notebook program for students in grades eight through twelve.
The district declined to release which schools will receive the computers on Wednesday. Distribution will continue weekly through October until about 19,000 students received the Netbooks.
