There have been numerous reports regarding Apple’s (AAPL) rumored high-definition television set. Some analysts have claimed that the Cupertino-based company would announce a self-branded HDTV later this year, while others have suggested that the device will not launch until some time in 2013 or even 2014. Earlier reports have also stated that rather than release an HDTV, the company will focus on its Apple TV box and include features such as a cloud-based DVR service, social sharing and an icon-based user interface. Bloomberg now reports that Apple won’t be releasing any new TV products this year, however, due to failed content negotiations with cable providers.

In recent negotiations, the company reportedly faced setbacks over who would have control over the user interface and whether a new Apple TV set-top box should be sold directly to customers or leased through cable providers.

An unnamed source told Bloomberg that Apple is furthest along in negotiations with Time Warner Cable. Even if the two companies strike a deal, however, it wouldn’t represent a radical change in the industry because customers would still be forced to pay their monthly cable bill.
