Google slips open source JPEG killer into Gmail, Picasa

<A target="_blank" href="http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/23/webp_format_in_chrome_gmail_picasa/">Gmail, Picasa, and the Chrome browser are now using WebP instead of JPEG</A> for images. WebP reduces the size of web images by about 40 percent, allowing them to load faster.
