Sanyo Electric said it is set to book a loss of 2.04 billion yen ($17 million) in its earnings for the year that just ended to cover part of the cost to recall mobile phone batteries.

NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s top mobile phone operator, said in December it would recall 1.3 million cellphone batteries made by a Sanyo subsidiary because they may overheat and rupture.

The Osaka-based company is the world’s largest maker of rechargeable batteries.
