Royal Philips Electronics will begin making mobile personal navigation systems to tap into the growing popularity of the devices, the Dutch technology conglomerate said Tuesday. Three Philips devices, to launch from September to October and start at $500, will compete directly with those of Dutch navigation device maker TomTom International. Philips said in a statement that the devices will weigh 160 grams. They will obtain map data from former Philips subsidiary Navteq.
