TV Guide Mobile Entertainment is making two new services available to US consumers: the next generation of the TV Guide Mobile interactive program guide and an on-demand mobile version of the TV Guide Channel. An early incarnation of TV Guide Mobile became available in 2005, but with this significant upgrade users can peruse local program listings, schedule show reminders, send reminders to friends and get viewing recommendations and editorials on their mobile phones. Before it launches later this year, it also will incorporate technology being developed by Gemstar-TV Guide to allow consumers to remotely access their digital video recorders through mobile devices and the Internet.
