MontaVista Software has launched its latest open-source mobile OS, seeking to build on the small but growing interest in Linux among manufacturers and operators rolling out third-generation wireless technology. <A HREF="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=1817&e=2&u=/nf/20050426/bs_nf/33513&sid=96120760">Mobilinux 4.0 is based on MontaVista's Mobilinux Open Framework,</A> which is focused on developing future Linux-based handset designs. The new operating system is built around the Linux 2.6 kernel and, according to the company, features performance improvements, power-management enhancements and greater reliability.
