
OQO has released the OQO model 01 ultra personal computer. Weighing just 14 ounces, the model 01 is a complete PC that runs Microsoft Windows XP and packs a 1GHz Pentium-class processor, 20GB hard drive and 256 MB of memory into a pocketable form factor.

JAVOEdge has released their JAVOSkin case for the Dell Axim X3/X3i/X30 series Pocket PCs. They’re currently available from JAVOEdge as a single pack, or bundled with a JAVOScreen and JAVOSync.

Saunders Manufacturing, maker of RhinoSkin cases for mobile technology products, announced its new aluminum case specifically designed for the Dell Axim X50. The case features a brushed chrome aluminum finish, combining aluminum and ABS plastic, with the RhinoSkin removable post and belt clip system.

Sharp Systems of America introduced the successor of their Actius MM20 notebook computer, the performance-enhanced Actius MP30. The thin and light Actius MP30 adds built-in multimedia capability to Sharp’s ultraportable form factor. As an added enhancement to the 4.6-hour life for the Actius MP30 battery, Sharp has included a ‘Mobile Mode Switch,’ which provides users with an energy saving option. When in use, ‘Mobile Mode’ decreases the brightness of the display and the frequency of the processor to extend the life of the battery when a user might need it most.

SanDisk introduced the SanDisk Digital Audio Player, a small, portable player that uses embedded flash memory instead of a rotating hard drive and plays for up to 15 continuous hours on a single AAA battery. The Digital Audio Player is available in 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB capacities, can play MP3, Windows Media file and Windows Media-based DRM file playback, features FM radio and voice recording, and can double as a USB data storage device.

MaximumSoft announced the release of WebCopier for Pocket PC 4.1. The program allows users to download entire Web sites, and later view them on desktop computers or Pocket PCs. WebCopier provides access to the downloaded information at any time, no matter where its users are, no Internet connection is required.

Intel has decided not to bring to market a 4 Ghz single-core Pentium 4 after all. As a form of compensation, Intel will offer the “Extreme Edition” of its current Pentium 4 line across all speed grades beginning next year. The P4EE contains 2MB of cache in order to improve the processor’s performance.

The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that Applied Digital Solutions of Delray Beach, Fla., could market the VeriChip, an implantable computer chip about the size of a grain of rice, for storing medical information. The VeriChip itself contains no medical records, just codes that can be scanned and revealed in a doctor’s office or hospital. With that code, doctors can unlock part of a secure database that holds the patient’s medical information, including allergies and prior treatment. The electronic database, not the chip, would be updated with each medical visit.

Dell has released the new Axim X50 Pocket PC. The X50 is available in speeds ranging from 416 Mhz to 624 Mhz and features the first VGA screen in a handheld.
