Samsung announced that it could squeeze seven times the resolution of a 42-inch high-definition television down to 300 pixels per inch (ppi), doubling the number of pixels once thought possible in one-inch of display real estate using the first a-Si (Amorphous Silicon) 2.6-inch TFT-LCD with VGA image quality. a-Si, along with polycrystalline silicone, are the two main silicon technologies used in the thin film transistors for LCDs.
