Spirit finds hollow soil

Spirit, the Martian rover, has completed one of its first soil extraction and examination experiments on the red planet. The assay revealed <A HREF="http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994577">unexpected hollow grains,</A> or tubes, believed to have been created by capillary action.
