Today, we honor Katherine Graham, former publisher of The Washington Post, who died yesterday. As publishers, we at ZATZ feel the need to recognize that an important light in the world of publishing has gone dark. Graham lead the Post from 1963 to 1991. In addition to being the final arbiter of the Watergate publishing decision (and that of the Pentagon Papers in 1971), she was also the first woman to head a Fortune 500 company. Katherine Graham was one of the great Americans of the 20th Century and our condolences go out to the employees of the Post and to her family. An excellent article about her life can, of course, be found yesterday's in The Washington Post.
