Hawk-eyed PalmPower readers watching last night’s episode of JAG (Judge Advocate General) on CBS may have noticed a TV-ized device that looked surprisingly similar to a Palm computer. The “PDA” was shaped very much like a PalmPilot (with a black lump grafted on the back just about the size and shape of a nine-volt battery). The screen had amazing backlighting (necessary to make it visible for TV viewers) and you could see a partial screen display taken straight from the Palm OS user interface. The device played a pivotal role in the program when the lead character, Harmon Rabb, sent a distress email to his partner, Major Sarah MacKenzie. The device beeped, and an email message was displayed on the screen identifying the killer. It was a little “Hollywood”, but fun nonetheless.
