GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The increasingly famous burger at Stella's Lounge is getting more national attention. It ranked third on a list shared by Foursquare, based on more than 4.5 billion check-ins on the location-based social network.

The list was compiled in celebration of National Cheeseburger Day, which was officially celebrated on Sept. 18, 2013, and is among a number of similarly increasingly popular National (Fill-in-the-Food) Days of dubious, mysterious origin, including National Bicarbonate of Soda Day, National French Fried Clam Day and National Pumpkin Pie Day, whose founders had the chutzpah to claim Dec. 25 as its own.

Today, if you're interested, is National Butterscotch Pudding Day, according to Wikipedia, which sources the information from a New York Times article, so it must be official.

For what it's worth, USA Today Googled the origin of National Cheeseburger Day, and concluded that it was started by "the Cattlemen's Beef Board." The burgers at Stella's definitely qualify for the list, being stuffed with cheese (and served impaled with a steak knife).

Read also:

The nation's most popular burger joints.
