BERLIN – Samsung took the stage at its Unpacked event on Wednesday to unveil its next-gen Note phablet and Galaxy Gear smartwatch. But that’s not all the company has up its sleeve here at the IFA trade show. Execs took the stage at a separate event this morning to show off what’s next for HDTVs, home gadgets, and printing.
Specifically, there was a 98-inch version of Samsung’s ultra-high def (UHD) S9 HDTV. Samsung first showed off an 85-inch S9 at this year’s CES (left), and started taking pre-orders for the $39,999 set in March. Now it’s going even bigger with a massive 98-inch version – which is otherwise similar to the 85-incher – though details about a possible release or pricing were scant.
Apparently, a 110-inch version is also in the works (see below), but the 98-inch will get the IFA glory this time around. We’ll check it out on the show floor this weekend.
Samsung also teased what it said will be the very first UHD OLED TV, but no other details were shared, and once again showed off its 55-inch Curved OLED set, which arrived in Europe last week.
