BlackBerry 10 is the upcoming proprietary operating system from Research In Motion for line of their smartphone and handheld devices. The new operating system is based on QNX which was acquired by RIM in April 2010.

After BlackBerry World, RIM started distributing BlackBerry10 Dev Alpha prototype handsets to BlackBerry developers. Research in Motion showcased BlackBerry 10 operating system which featured a nifty predictive touch input keyboard interface which works on gesture-based predictive text system. Everything looks great in the new operating system, and is of course far better than BlackBerry 7 which the current RIM devices are booting. RIM is losing the smartphone scene, mostly because they have not been catching up with changing user's requirements. QWERTY keyboard, business features etc. were pretty attractive features few years back, but users now have options, in fact many of the Android smartphones are coming with even better business features. It's good that RIM has finally realized that times have changed and they need new features as BBM just wouldn't fetch enough sales.

RIM is close to launching the all new BlackBerry 10 operating system, and perhaps they're polishing it as we speak. Being close to launch also means there will be couple of leaked information, and here are some interesting news about BB 10. An Italian site dedicated to BlackBerrys have got hold of few videos that demonstrate gestures on BB10 OS. We have already seen several builds of BB10 OS and it's quite evident that it's a major overhaul over the previous OS. RIM has borrowed elements or possibly inspiration from popular mobile operating systems such as iOS and Android. BB10 supports gestures, which as we know was the main feature of webOS. Gestures will be a major navigation feature in BlackBerry 10.

Above are the four videos that BlackBerryItalia.it have managed to get their hands on. Two of the videos have English captions, while the other two are in Italian. Though the videos are short, they are sweet and definitely informative. The videos demonstrate how RIM wants its device to be accessible easily in order to perform a task. It's quite evident that the company is on the right track.

Read also:

BlackBerry Platform FAQs (BlackBerry Rocks!)

BlackBerry Laguna BB10 phone for Verizon specs disclosure (Phones Review)

BlackBerry 10 Expected In 2013 (Mobile bloom News)

Explore: 15 additional articles.
